people, average people, are a large part of what happens in any given historical event, but they are often individuals who simply fall by the wayside, forgotten in history. The
following paper examines, for the most part, Alfred F. Youngs work, The Shoemaker and the Tea Party, concerning an ordinary man, George Robert Twelves Hewes. The paper also examines Christopher
Columbus and John Smith. Ordinary People and American History In Youngs work, according to the student requesting this paper, he notes "In a time of upheaval, ordinary people
make events possible, and they have done so time and time again in American history." This is something that comes as little surprise when one really thinks about it because
any great event has many people involved and history often forgets many of the individuals because they may not have gone on to do anything else that was noteworthy in
history. An incredibly brave and noble man may quickly be forgotten if he returns to an ordinary life after having done something great and important. In many ways this is
a shame for people should be recognized when they do important things, no matter how common or average they may be. But, on the other hand it is often enough
