The health care industry has come to agree that quality of life is multidimensional in nature and includes both objective and subjective variables. These can be generalized into physical, emotional, and social well-being. Within these general spheres are cognitive, emotional, physical and external components (Rubin, 2000). These translate into satisfaction, happiness, degree of health and need gratification. Martin is an ordinary man who has lived to see sixty-seven summers. he defines aging as a process of experience - the more you do, see and live, the older you are - regardless of chronological age. He isnt what many people would consider as adventurous. The most important experiences of his life were in battle in Korea. he views this time in his life (from the age of fourteen until twenty-six) as the greatest amount of maturity to come via his experiences. He was a jump school instructor - teaching others what he had accomplished many, many times - how to jump out of an airplane and into enemy territory. He has also been a teacher - the last bit of employment he took on before he retired from the carpentry trade. He is a master carpenter - beginning when he first got out of the service and continuing as long as he is able. He is proud of his activities and abilities, citing a time when he saw the United States from the drivers seat of an eighteen wheeler as another time of growth through experience.
