Tale" oracles serve to offer a great deal of diversity and intrigue in the plays. We see the oracles as tellers of truth, but also possibly the instigators of trouble.
In the following paper we examine the two plays separately and then discuss how the two differ in regards to the role played by the oracles. Macbeth In
Macbeth the oracle is essentially the truth told by the three sisters, or the three witches. In the beginning of the tale they inform Macbeth that he will be king.
They also inform him that a friend will also produce kings, and that Macbeth cannot be killed by any man born of a woman. Macbeth takes this information to his
wife, information which proves to be the demise of them both. Interestingly enough, in the beginning, when we learn of the witches predictions, Macbeth is eager to achieve the position
of King, but not so eager to do what he sees should be done to speed things along. In this we see that the oracle, if left alone, may well
have been nothing but a devise from which helpful information came. But, because he feels so strongly about the predictions, he takes matters into his own hands, a reality perhaps
perceived by the oracle. He believes the predictions of the witches, and thinks that he may well be benefited by killing King Duncan. But, he is hesitant about doing such
a thing. It is, however, Lady Macbeth who urges him on. It is Lady Macbeth who searches for power in a very powerful and active manner. She convinces Macbeth that
murder is the best way to secure his position, but he wavers. She comes back at him and almost derides him for being a simpleton that goes back on his
