she truly is. The following paper examines what it is that makes Oprah Winfrey such a phenomenal and amazing woman. Oprah Winfrey Oprah Winfrey is considered to be
one of the wealthiest people in the nation, and this is no small feat considering she is a woman and African American. She is not simply the wealthiest female, but
the wealthiest African American as well. She has done something no other figure has done, made herself a household name and make a difference, while getting wealthy. And, in being
wealthy she is also a very powerful philanthropist as well, never hogging her wealth for simple selfish purposes: "Oprahs $151 million in gifts and pledges to various charities earns her
the distinction of being the first African-American on BusinessWeeks list" of Americas top philanthropists (BusinessWeek, 2004). This position truly sets her aside as a remarkable woman, or person, or
African American. In essence, she has entered into a social class/position that seems to belong to no other person but Oprah. She has bridged gaps between gender and race and
class, and she has made a difference in many peoples lives through her television show, which has never been afraid to touch upon serious topics. Whether or not one cares
