over the world. Whether one pursues work as an x-ray technologist, in MRI or in CT, job opportunities abound not just in the US and Canada but in Europe
and other areas of the world as well. International health organizations, governments, and even the Peace Corps are all looking for qualified radiographers.
Radiography is one of the most commonly used diagnostic techniques. This is true whether we are working in the US, in Eastern Europe or elsewhere in the world.
Radiographers have a constantly expanding job arena, in fact, thanks to continuing developments in radiography technology. Consider, for example, the relatively new high resolution CT evaluation (HRCT).
HRCT is now enjoying widespread utilization in everything from the diagnosis of emphysema to the diagnosis of appendicitis. It has the
potential to allow those in health care to more accurately image morphological abnormalities. HRCT more sensitive than chest x-rays in the diagnosis, assessment and monitoring of most types of
emphysema, for example. Despite its usefulness in a broad variety of applications, however, HCRT has some drawbacks in certain utilization. This is where 16 slice CT scans
are carving their niche. The technological evolution that has characterized radiography has also insured a continual need for those skilled
in using that technology. The two slice CT scanner, for example, first hit the medical arena in the 1990s. allowed the technician to obtain two separate views of
the abnormality almost simultaneously (Kalayoglu). By 1998 this technology had evolved to four slice scanners, scanners that could obtain four separate images in less than a second (Health
