fear. This fear was that meeting someone with the use of the Internet was downright dangerous, but today, Internet dating services are not something to be feared. Rather, people understand
that when they converse with someone online, it does not mean they really know the person. Many individuals lie about who they are. A nineteen-year-old boy may turn out to
be a 49-year-old man who is in search of teenage girls. Predators in fact use the Internet because they can easily coerce someone into a meeting. However, the truth is
that people do use the Internet to find companions, but they generally do it with caution. To more complicate the prospect of dating in a dangerous world is the fact
that sexually transmitted disease is a reality of dating today. There are now fears of deadly disease like AIDS. Unlike generations that have come before, sex was not something that
could lead to such dire consequences. That said, studies have shown that fear of STDs has not altered sexual behavior much (Mickenney and Sprecher 126). Still, there are people who
are cognizant of the problem. For example, there are people who may not fear getting a disease so they act without much caution, but there are people who already have
an STD. One in five men, and one in four women, have genital herpes (Cohen). They suffer from psychological issues because they are not sure what to do when they
first are acquainted with a prospective love interest. They want to tell the person about the disease, particularly if it is contagious, but they fear that they will be rejected
because of it. One example is that a girl named Jennifer did tell her date about the disease. She says: " One guy, I thought he was Mr. Perfect.
