education that he felt were incredibly important for a powerful, balanced, and successful individual. The following paper examines a line from this work. On the Education of Children
In one section of the essay Montaigne states, "Human understanding is marvelously enlightened by daily conversation with men, for we are, otherwise, compressed and heaped up in ourselves, and have
our sight limited to the length of our own noses" (Montainge, 1580). Most people do not stop to consider the importance of sharing information and thus learning and even deepening
their own intelligence and comprehension. His statement is incredibly valid. It seems that most people, when thinking about conversing with others, may well do this in order to simply
feel they are not alone, or in order to get their own ideas and thoughts out there. Many people may have no interest, or no awareness, of the fact that
in talking and truly conversing with others they are deepening their understanding of the world and of themselves. Of course this may well not apply to everyone for some people
truly speak to hear themselves talk, as the saying goes. Some people see conversation as a means to show others how grand and important they are, and thus to convince
themselves further of their importance. Montaignes statement does not, however, truly apply to such people in most cases. Montainge is talking about educated and average people who understand, however
