most often found in events that cause him much grief. A tragic hero is someone who falls from grace or who does something out of character or is immersed in
a tragedy and must cope with things beyond his control. He may kill, but the circumstances beg him. He would not have ordinarily done such a thing normally. It
seems that Oedipus meets all of the requirements laid out by Aristotle and one can call King Oedipus a tragic hero. The downfall of King Oedipus is caused in
part by his own hubris as well as his destiny to suffer. Does this mean he is not a tragic hero because to some extent, pride gets in the way?
No. It appears that the pride that he feels goes to his own humanity. A tragic hero is not superhuman. Rather, he is lifelike. And while Oedipus in part is

murder his father, but marrying his mother would be against the law. It would be an impossibility, no matter what the prediction, that this would happen. However, in the case
of Oedipus, he is adopted. He grows up not knowing who his real mother and father are, and as fate would have it, he does end up fulfilling the prediction.
