well-known, lets start with Galaesus. He turns up only once, in Book VII: "First Almon falls, old Tyrrheus eldest care, / Piercd with an arrow from the distant war: /
... / Among the rest, the rich Galaesus lies; / A good old man, while peace he preachd in vain, / Amidst the madness of th unruly train: / Five
herds, five bleating flocks, his pastures filld; His lands a hundred yoke of oxen tilld" (Virgil, 2009). The Aeneid is the story of Aeneass voyage from Troy to Italy, where
he has been told he will found a great city. Like Odysseus, he has many adventures on his way to the "promised land," but when he and his men arrive,
trouble starts. Juno, the Queen of the Gods (known to the Greeks as Hera) is still angry with the Trojans, and if she cant keep them out of Italy she
vows to make their lives miserable at the least. She inflames a warrior named Turnus, who is in love with Lavinia, daughter of the king, by suggesting shes going to
marry Aeneas instead of him (Virgil, 2009). Turnus gathers his men and attacks the Trojans, and it is in this skirmish that Galaesus is killed (Virgil, 2009). Paschalis has
done a study of some of the semantics in the poem, and suggests that the name "Galaesus" can be associated with the colors black and white: "The cluster Galaesus .
. . greges . . . balantum . . . armenta implies for the segment Gala- an etymological association with ??+??a (milk). The name Galaesus is derived from a river
