many men were proving themselves less than honorable men, taking advantage of a situation and breaking much of the codes of the Greeks. The following paper examines this, presenting an
important quote and illustrating how Odysseus was very justified in his revenge on the suitors. Odysseus Revenge: Justified The quote that
starts the focus of revenge, the truth of Odysseus identity, and his clear intent is as follows: "Dogs, did you think that I should not come back from Troy?
You have wasted my substance, have forced my women servants to lie with you, and have wooed my wife while I was still living. You have feared neither God
nor man, and now you shall die" (Homer XXII 167-168). Odysseus intention was to kill them, to make them pay for all they had done to his place and
his people. These suitors were individuals who had clearly disrespected Odysseus household and his possessions, and they had clearly violated Greek codes of conduct in many respects. The entire
story of Odysseus sets him up as a noble man, regardless of what someone may know about Greek codes of conduct. He was a noble man and a man with
integrity who was a leader among men. His travels and his behavior during those travels clearly demonstrated those truths about him, establishing him as a very powerful and honorable hero
figure. As such, even without knowing anything about Greek society one clearly understands that as a noble and honorable man he is clearly justified in destroying those who damaged his
