of people they should try to put aside any attitudes or ideas they may have concerning this group of people. For example, if an individual is observing a group of
people they think are just wonderful people, their observations may not be accurate for they are clouded by previously held ideas. An observer must distance themselves from those they observe,
and in doing so they will discover many things they did not previously know. With this basic premise in mind the following paper examines what one should look for when
observing a group of skateboarders at a skatepark. Observing Skaters One of the first things an observer should look for is the age of the people participating in this
activity. Are these people children, perhaps aged 10-15, or is there no real pattern to the age group. If we see that, for example, the age group is predominantly 13-18
we can assume it is a sport or activity that is perhaps related to becoming an adult in some way, an activity that serves as something of a transition. If
the age group were say 8-14 we may assume that the people involved were merely playing a game, being children in essence. There are many things that we could assume
or research in regards to age group alone. Another thing to look for is the gender of those involved. Are they primarily male, female, both? If it is a
male oriented activity then that would create many possibilities in relationship to examination. Are they engaging in male behavior? Are they acting in a way that may differ from their
behavior when in a group of equal male and female parts? And, (assuming that most skaters are male and that the skate park participants are primarily male) if the sport
