United States. It is a condition, a health condition, that seems to be on the rise for all socio-economic groups and all ages of individuals. As one author notes, "more
people are overweight today than ever before" and it has ultimately become an "epidemic" of sorts (Kidshealth.org, 2007). Many may well argue that the reason for the rise in
obesity is not just associated with the fact that there is a great deal of non-nutritious food available, or that the nation is one of the wealthiest in the world,
but also with the fact that technology has become more increasingly available. Technology in the form of computers, television, video games and other elements allow, if not encourage, the
individual to sit and do nothing that exerts energy which clearly also helps lead to the condition of obesity. With that in mind the following paper examines the condition of
obesity in the United States today. Obesity in the United States It is perhaps important to understand that, first and foremost, obesity is when you are carrying too
much weight, in fat, than is healthy for the body. One author further notes that, "Obesity occurs over time when you eat more calories than you use" and that "The
balance between calories-in and calories-out differs for each person" (MedlinePlus, 2008). Frighteningly enough, CNN (2007) claims that, "About one in three American adults is considered to be obese."
One of the biggest problems associated with being obese is that which is connected to the health of the individual. When a person is
