it is a problem that is increasing, with overweight rates and obesity rates increasing over the last four decades (Healthy People, 2010). There are regional differences in the level of
obesity, this can be seen by looking at the statistics from New York State, where in 1997 42% of adults were overweight or obese, by 2008 this had increased to
60% (DoH, 2010). When looking at only obesity, adults in New York State display a significant increase; from 10% in 1997 to 25% in 2008 (DoH, 2010). The pattern
is not only seen in adults, the rate of childhood obesity has tripled (DoH, 2010). With this increase it is unsurprising, especially when the health, social and financial costs are
considered, that targeting a reduction in the level of overweight children and adults is a national health objective, set out in the Healthy People 2000 document, with the aim of
this being achieved through a range of strategies including increasing physical activity and attention to nutrition. National strategies; the National Institute of Health has invested $1.2 billion in a war
on obesity targeting research as well as both prevention and treatment, backed by the "NIH Obesity Research Task Force" which was formed in 2003 to push forward clinical research
(NIH, 2010). National measures have been undertaken, but they need to be supported by local measures, 2009 saw an expo in Brooklyn aimed at teenagers and young adults but
an expo alone is not going to encourage the changes needed to reduce levels of obesity. To develop and implement campaigns aimed at the local population, in this case Brooklyn
