cards which contain charts of what the BMI really means and into which category a person falls. Similarly, new diet books have begun to focus on the body mass calculation.
In fact, there are various definitions to determine what is normal or clinically notable. Obesity is considered to be a problem by many. However, there are some who believe that
being overweight is not as significant a problem as some make it out to be. Also, there are different perspectives and these are important to explore.
II. Discussion There are various positions on obesity. Obesity is not necessarily an enemy. There is a fat acceptance movement, suggesting that even though people are obese, they can
still be healthy. They can exercise and eat right, despite the fact that they are markedly overweight. Another position is one that is the opposite, suggesting that the best thing
an obese person can do is to lose weight, and that becomes of vital significance. A third position is that obesity is a genetic problem. The first position-that one can
eat right and be healthy despite obesity-is a part of a recent fat acceptance movement. For example, Jeanette DePatie is a spokesman for the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance,
and believes that people should not be ashamed of their obesity (Trussell, 2003). This is a positive position, and is its strength, but it may neglect the actual health problems
