the reason for the condition. It is not always simply a matter of ignorance on the part of the individual who is overweight or obese but rather there are deep
issues relating to the condition of the obese individual. With that in mind the following paper summarizes the research/article "Emic Perspectives of Body Weight in Overweight and Obese White Women
with Limited Income" by Stephany Parker and Kathryn S Keim. Obese White Women with Limited Income In this study the researchers addressed women between the ages of 19
and 44. The women were, as the title suggests, of lower income, or limited income. The study interviewed, extensively, the women in the womens homes. In this study the researchers
were seeking answers to how the women felt about their bodies and food. The study addressed whether women were satisfied with their bodies, and essentially what led them to become,
and remain, overweight or obese. In addition, "The research was part of a study aimed at developing a cultural understanding of heart disease in limited-income, white, overweight and obese women"
(Parker; Keim, 2004; 282). It is interesting to note that some of the women indicated they felt men liked bigger women and others liked skinnier women, a belief that
could well involve their perceptions of their body size. The authors note that "Despite mixed perspectives, mens preferences for a certain body type emerged as a common theme throughout the
