office is taken during good times, there are times in history when the oath is taken during " gathering clouds and raging storms" (Obama, 2009). Ironically, the oath was taken
twice because Obama was seemingly so nervous that he made a few flubs, something that was a concern and led to a retake behind closed doors. Yet, despite the fact
that there have been critics of the speech, and he felt the weight of the position on his shoulders that day, Barack Obamas charismatic gifts were clearly exemplified. The
new president goes through a laundry list of problems that the nation faces. Then, after he reinforces the dismal news, he says: "Today I say to you that the challenges
we face are real, they are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this America: They will
be met" (Obama, 2009). There is certainly a ray of hope within the context of that statement. He explains that America is challenged, but he also says that the challenges
will be met, and of that, he seems to be sure. He goes on to provide even more inspiration for the people, drawing on the past and the spirit of
America. Largely, he focuses on the early Americans who made the nation what it is today. After relaying facts about Americas heritage, Obama (2009) concludes: "This is the journey we
