Plan A. Obama B. McCain Regardless of the outcome of the 2008 U.S. presidential election, it already qualifies as one for the history books.
It featured the first serious female presidential contender, the first female Republican running mate, the first African American nominee, and a decorated war hero who if elected will be the
oldest President of the United States. Both candidates promise change and have outlined their foreign and domestic policies for voters on their respective websites. Interestingly, they reflect as
much about the contenders as they do their political party ideologies. Barack Obama is a first-term junior senator representing Illinois. He was born in Hawaii and lived overseas
in Indonesia for a time. A product of a single-mother household and imbued with the middle class values of Americas heartland Obama put himself through college and closely identifies
with the struggles of the American working man. His healthcare and tax plans represent the liberal faction of the Democratic party as well as his own personal vision for
America. John McCain is a military veteran, a longtime fixture on the the Washington political scene, and a proud defender of his country. A two-time congressman and serving
his fourth term as a Senator from Arizona, McCain has shed his maverick reputation to tow a more conservative Republican Party line. Pro military and pro business (his wife,
a member of a wealthy Arizona family, is worth an estimated $100 million), McCains healthcare and tax policies are corporate friendly and represent the Republican attitude that less government involvement
in the lives of citizens provides them with more freedom of choice. The healthcare plan offered by Barack Obama and his running mate, Delaware Senator Joe Biden, promises to correct
