Child Left Behind Act is one of disappointment and needed change; claiming how teachers "feel betrayed and frustrated" (Hawkins-Simons) by what has been set forth as a comprehensive approach to infuse quality education back into the school system as well as afford academic equity to all across the board. Obama does not support continuation of the Act until fundamental changes are made to its core principles, inasmuch as they have not proven effective thus far. McCain asserts the concept was held promise at its start but has steadily declined in its objective and as such also agrees the Act should be revisited in order to correct "some things that badly need fixing" (Hawkins-Simons). Each candidates stand on teacher pay shares a common denominator of rewarding good teachers with financial recompense based solely upon their individual contributions to academia. Obama takes this one step further by noting how such arbitrary means like student performance on standardized testing is not an appropriate way to recognize instructional excellence, while McCain favors pointedly removing ineffective teachers who do not belong in the field of education (Hawkins-Simons). The issue of affordable higher education finds Obama and McCain on different tracks where funding acquisition is concerned with the former supporting a $4,000 tax credit to offset tuition costs and the latter endorsing "funds from federal training accounts to give displaced workers of every age a fresh start" (Hawkins-Simons).
