Kellogg is also known for its Eggo waffles and Nutri-Grain cereal bars (Murray, 2010). The companys products are sold in more than 180 countries worldwide (Murray, 2010). The company got its start with a mistake - during the late 19th century, while Will Kellogg was making wheat flakes for brother Dr. John Kelloggs patients, the dough used accidentally absorbed water (Murray, 2010). The Kelloggs decided to roll it and toast it anyway, creating the first flaked cereal (Murray, 2010). By 1906, the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company was formed to produce corn flakes (Murray, 2010). Marketing and advertisement helped the company remain competitive, and to expand overseas and much of the 20th century saw expansion through organic growth and acquisition (Murray, 2010). Its most recent acquisition took place in 2000, when it acquired Keebler, and also acquired a direct store delivery system (Swanson, 2010). Since that time, Kellogg has focused on expanding distribution of its cereal and snack products both domestically and abroad, through cost-efficiency initiatives, which it plans to reinvest in promoting core brands and producing more innovative products (Swanson, 2010). The most recent stock price for the company was at just over $50 a share, up slightly from its opening of $49.96 per share (Stock Quote, 2010).
