organization to deal with a major organizational change. In this particular case, a partnership of professional consultants implemented a new system for
evaluating partners performances which, in turn, led to sharing of profits. Historically, partners were given a share of profits based on performance
only. However, under the new system, senior leadership positions are awarded a pre-designated level of profits, regardless of individual performance. However, all other partners continued to receive profit distributions based
solely on performance. Adding insult to injury is that the change wasnt communicated to the firms partners until after the process. It
was, in fact, sprung on the partners during the performance reviews, and after the award profits were completed. What is wrong with this
picture? Whats wrong is that this is a change that has a direct impact on everyones capacity to earn a living. Most people
expect a certain amount of money, or salaries, for the jobs they perform. Certainly this is a small issue - partners continue to receive profits based specifically on performance, as
they always have. However, senior partners will receive pre-designated amounts, based on seniority rather than on performance. This is the type of thing that could lead to a great deal
of resentment and anger on the part of the non-senior partners. These emotions could translate into less production - after all, the partners might be thinking, why should they work
their butts off so that senior partners can receive a pre-designated share of profits, even if those senior partners dont work for it? The result could be a dwindling of
