The difference between content (or data) conflict and relational conflicts involves the difference between misunderstandings, emotions and information (or lack of information). Content conflicts, or data conflicts, occur when individuals lack information necessary to make decisions (Types of conflict, 2011). Content conflict also occurs when people are misinformed, interpret content/data differently, disagree on relevant content or "have competing assessment procedures" (Types of conflict, 2011). When it comes to content conflict, the content is at root of the problems. There is either not enough content, or people are interpreting the data differently (Types of conflict, 2011). As such, most content conflicts have "data solutions" - in other words, getting the right data, getting enough of the right data, or being on the same page with the data is all thats needed to ensure the conflict is resolved. Misunderstandings with data happen all the time. These are relatively easy to solve, however, once the correct data, and a decent interpretation, are completed. Relationship conflicts, however, are more difficult to resolve. These occur typically when there are misperceptions, misrepresentations, negative emotions, stereotypes, miscommunication and even repetitive negative behaviors (Types of conflict, 2011).
