that argues why a certain thing may not be in the best interest of what it might be trying to protect. In this paper, the writer will take on the
role of a CFO of a Fortune 500 company, who is objecting to regulations on the financial and banking industries. The cause of
the 2007-2009 financial crisis and ensuing meltdown can be directed to a couple of factors. The first was a recession, which is typical, and cyclical of any economy. The second,
as we now know, was a greedy banking and financial industry, that inflated values of housing and encouraged people into homes who had no business being there.
In the aftermath there have been cries for Congress and government to "do something" so it doesnt happen again. This typically means passing a regulation
or law that intends to put the wrong-doers in place. The problem with such laws, however, is that they also end up punishing companies and institutions that do it right,
that follow the laws and arent in it for the greed. I very much fear, however that the Restoring American Financial Stability Act of 2010, also known as the "financial
reform bill" will end up punishing the wrong people and institutions. This is not to say the bill isnt a well-meaning attempt on the part of Congress and President Barack
Obama to prevent a future meltdown from taking place. But its difficult, if not impossible, to legislate all wrong-doing out of existence. This bill, replete with a consumer watchdog agency,
a financial early warning system and a tighter leash for financial firms, will simply hamstring those who really didnt do anything wrong.
