The presidential debates were held three times this year, dating September 30th, October 8th, and October 13th. Although the main issues were the war in Iraq, national security, taxes,
and healthcare, the issue of homosexuality came up with contrasting points of view by both candidates. This is an issue that has firmly divided camps and served to polarize many
Americans, due in large part to the various legislation which has been before the House and Senate this last year. The issue is that of homosexuality and gay marriage,
which was debated on October 13th, the last and final fiery debate by President George Bush, and Senator John Kerry. In question 6 of the October 13th debate, President Bush
was asked the question by Bob Schieffer, "Do you believe Homosexuality is a choice"? Bush responds by saying "I dont know", but later goes on to explain that we should
not change the sanctity of marriage, meaning the way God created Adam and Eve. Bush declared how he proposed a constitutional amendment to protect the clarification of marriage, that a
man and a woman are the only two legally recognized parties. In my opinion, the founding fathers lived up to a greater moral code and it was assumed that everyone
knew what the definition of a couple was.
