At any given time, many families are opting to live in a mobile home so as to allow them the flexibility to move from one place to the next, perhaps enjoying the vast resources and varying sceneries that their country has to offer. Sometimes referred to as the Recreational Vehicle, the mobile home has become more than a luxury item for many. Costing less than the average home, and coming equipped with some of the most up to date luxuries such as microwaves, satellite television and computer stations, the cramped Winnebagos of the 1970s are gone. The box on wheels has become a home for many. "Nearly one in 12 U.S. vehicle-owning households now owns an RV. Thats nearly 7 million households -- an increase of 7.8 percent over the past four years, according to the study"(Motorhome Magazine, 2002). Some of the benefits that many have realized, whom have chosen to live this type of lifestyle, is that the cost of cooling/heating and general maintenance is still much lower than it would be in a traditional home. Consider that there is no lawn to mow, very little housework involved, and allows one the freedom to choose ones neighbors, if any at all. "For many poor and moderate-income people today, a mobile home is their only housing option. The mobile home is to them what the prefabricated bungalow was to people of modest means in the 1940s and 50s"(Ciotola, 2002).
