the personality of the character Baby Face Nelson. Discussion The film is a twist on Homers epic poem The Odyssey. Although it doesnt follow the classic story in precise detail,
it does introduce us to some of the characters and situations that Odysseus endured on his quest to return to Ithaca. Among other things, Odysseus ran into the Cyclops; was
held on Circes island for a year; nearly went mad listening to the Sirens; and finally had to kill the many suitors who had been trying to marry his wife,
Penelope. In the movie, the main character is Ulysses Everett McGill ("Ulysses" is the Latin for "Odysseus"), played by George Clooney. Hes in prison and finds out that his
ex-wife Penny is going to remarry. He still loves her and determines to escape and win her back. In order to make a successful prison break he needs help, so
he talks two of his friends, Delmar ODonnell (Tim Blake Nelson) and Pete (John Turturro) into helping him by promising them a share in the supposed spoils from a robbery.
The film follows the three hapless goofballs as they come across the sirens (three gorgeous women washing clothes in a river); almost fall under the spell of the Lotus Eaters
