which was founded by Madeleine Leininger whose theory is the cornerstone of this organization. The site contains information about the society, specifically, its mission, vision and philosophy/values and this provides
the user with a definition for Leiningers theory. In other words, is provides nurses with an idea of what this theory encompasses. It also provides information concerning Transcultural Nursing Certification.
However, there are no readily discernible links to the specifics of the theory, or how it has been used in research, or how the theory has developed. While Leiningers theory
is a vital one that has been often cited and used in nursing research, there is nothing to indicate this fact at this website. Margaret A. Newmans "Health as expanding
consciousness" theory, as does Leininger, has an explanation of the basic premise of her theory on her homepage. However, this homepage links the user to page that offers an overview
of the theory, its basic assumptions, supporting theory, and why this constitutes a significant paradigm shift in nursing. This page connects Newmans theory to that of Martha Rogers theory of
unitary human beings (Newman). This theory is appealing because it acknowledges how each person is unique and, therefore, must be "identified by her or his pattern, which reflects the pattern
