from a vast number of places, most predominantly the lesser privileged global communities. My experiences as a missionary nurse truly set the stage for what I would ultimately aspire
to be within the nursing profession. The extent to which people in underdeveloped, poverty-stricken Asian countries had little more on their minds than finding enough food to eat in
a given day jolted me into realizing how desperately they - and so other communities like theirs - had no other choice than to place health care far down on
their list of priorities. Children are forced to work for what meager food they can collect for themselves and their family, and even resort to eating inedible commodities like
toothpaste - often without knowing items like these are not actually food. These experiences taught me how to be more compassionate, understanding and giving in both a personal and professional
context, and is likely the incentive that guided me to work in an acute care setting. Now I have the opportunity to approach each patient from a holistic perspective,
fully understanding that they are infinitely more to me than merely the signs and symptoms presented by their illness. Moreover, my decision-making ability has improved considerably, inasmuch as the
decisions I now make are more analytical and based upon a broader and more diverse perspective. I have also learned that the concept
of practical problem solving within the hospital setting is essential when one examines the intrinsic relationship between critical thinking and decision-making. Conceptual framework of critical thinking revolves around the
very nature of approach: How to reach a level of ethical consideration while at the same time addressing - and solving - the problem at hand. 2. PHILOSOPHY
