Bettys condition is considered stable, she lives in fear of having another heart attack and has considerable anxiety ever time she feels any kind of pain. In fact, Bettys
family life is strained as a result of her constant sense of anxiety and belief that she is having another heart attack. Bettys family life has become disharmonious and
so family coping mechanisms have decreased. Assessment of Data Patterns Bettys family process is altered as a result of one
of the family leaders, the mother/wifes perception of a continued threat of a heart attack and her subsequent anxiety, fear, and response to pain. Bettys husband and two children
have expressed dissatisfaction about Bettys constant fear and her anxiety, which impact her ability to function as an active member of the family. As a result, response to family
issues, including the need for educational support for Betty in regards to her condition, are important aspects of a nursing response. Nursing Diagnosis There are three nursing
diagnoses that can be applied to Bettys family situation and her condition. The first is a teaching/learning diagnosis of a knowledge deficit, with a specific focus on Bettys existing
condition, her lack of awareness of her own limitations or lack of limitations in activity, and her response to various types of pain that have nothing to do with her
heart condition (NANDA, 1996). The second nursing diagnosis is anxiety, in this case, ranging from moderate to severe (NANDA, 1996). Bettys self-report indicates that she has constant
