role in terms of the biochemical process of the disease as well as potentially useful in early detention. In the inherited form of Alzheimers disease has demonstrate mutations on
the amyloid precursor protein (APP) or the presenilin proteins (Haass and De Strooper, 1999). In the inherited and the non inherited variations there has been the identification of the disease
as a misfolding disease as a result of the amassing of the abnormally folded amyloid beta proteins in the Alziheiemenr patients brains (Hashimoto et al, 2003). Amyloid beta (A?),
is a short peptide, this is a is an irregular proteolytic by product for the APP which is a transmembrane protein. The actual function of APP is not known, but
it is believed that it has a role in neuronal development (Kerr and Small, 2005). The proteolytic complex, of which the presenilins are components, are implicated in the processing
and degradation of APP (Cai et al, 2006). A? monomers are soluble and not harmful, however, when at a suitably high concentration level they may experience a major conformational transformation,
turning into a type of beta sheet rich tertiary structure which will amass to create amyloid fibrils (Ohnishi and Takano, 2001). These
amyloid fibrils will then deposit themselves in dense formations outside the neurons. These dense formation are known as senile or neuritic plaques, where they are deposited in less dense aggregations
they are known as diffuse plaques. There may also be the aggregation of the deposits small blood vessels walls located in the brain as a result congophilic angiopathy or amyloid
