and genocide. In their book, Not on Our Watch, actor Don Cheadle and human rights activist John Prendergast endeavor to raise the awareness of their readers about the Darfur genocide.
Their purpose is to motivate the public to bring political pressure to bear on the U.S. government to take action in Darfur to stop the violence and end the slaughter
and human rights violations. Despite the fact that the Sudanese government consistently manipulates the location tensions that propel the violence, the international community continues to reward this government with trade
deals that are justified by profit and loss rationalizations that are associated with the requirements of globalization. Cheadle is known to the public not only because of this book,
but also as for his work as an actor in the film Hotel Rwanda. This film relates the true-life story of Paul Rusesabagina, the Hutu manager of a hotel, who
gave shelter to over a thousand Tutsi refugees during the Rwandan genocide of the early 1990s. A factor that stands out in this film is that the international community, through
the UN, took virtually no actions to end the slaughter. The only help that was given to Rusesabagina in saving Tutsi lives was due to a lone UN official, Colonel
Oliver, who placed guard at the entrance gate to the hotel. The student researching this topic should note that as far as this writer/tutor can determine, neither the book
by Cheadle and Prendergast nor the movie Hotel Rwanda directly address the assignment topic, which is to explain the role that globalization plays in genocide. In Rwanda, the West played
