formation of an independent Irish republic. The Sinn Fein is considered a political body of the Irish Republic Army, a group noted for its use of violence to free
Ireland and subsequently Northern Ireland from British rule. This pursuit has required diligence from the British Army. The activities of the Sinn Fein, therefore, have held tremendous significance
to the role of the British Army in that they have kept military forces committed to the homeland, a commitment which has resulted not only in excessive manpower as well
as economic commitments. The formation of an Independent Irish Republic was not an event which occurred overnight. Neither was the
changes which would be felt in the role of the British Army. The first involvement of the Sinn Fein in a revolt against the United Kingdom occurred in 1916,
over a decade after the formation of the group. While the first revolt was successfully squelched by the British Army, it served to increase the popularity of the Sinn
Fein with the people. Three years later, in 1919 the Sinn Fein members of the British Parliament would take a decisive action and meet separately as an Irish national
