specific to registration of the sex offender: North Carolina law stipulates that all individuals who have been convicted of certain sex offenses must registered with the sheriffs department for the
county in which they reside. This information is transmitted to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NC SBI), which compiles a registry for the state that is available
online to the public via the Sex Offender Registry website (NC SBI). Non-resident students and non-resident workers are also required to register. However, if a non-resident is required to register
in another state, these individuals should contact their local sheriffs department to determine their specific registration requirements (NC SBI). Procedural guidelines related to the implementation of the registration/publication program:
Registration requirements differ according to the circumstances of the sex offender. General deadlines for registration are: 1. within 20 days of establishing resident in the State; 2. being present
in the State for at least 15 days; 3. with 20 days of release form a NC correctional facility; 4. immediately upon conviction of a reportable offense, with no active
sentence; 5. when enrolled in a NC institute of higher education 6. when working in the State for more than 14 days or a period that will exceed 30 days
in a calendar year (NC SBI). The North Carolina Department of Justice (NC DoJ) indicates that if a sex offender is classified as a "Sexually Violent Predator," a
