complex. In Henrik Ibsens "A Dolls House" we have Nora, a woman from a time period when women were truly considered to be subservient to men. In Harvey Fiersteins "On Tidy Endings" we have Marion, a woman who has more power than Nora in her modern society, but a woman who has essentially lost her husband to another man. These womens lives and situations are quite different and they are both women whose stories are somewhat unresolved. The following paper examines these women, comparing and contrasting them, while discussing what has changed for them by the end of the play and what has remained unresolved. Nora and Marion As mentioned, these stories take place in different time periods and as such the society in which these women live is very different. But, at the same time both of these women find that their lives revolve around the men in their lives and that is the primary conflict. With Nora we have a woman who lives in a world where men believe women to be simpletons. With Marion we have a woman whose husband left her for another man, leaving her troubled about her worth as a woman perhaps. And, at the same time we have stories that are both controversial in these regards. Where "A Dolls House deals with the themes of a woman fulfilling her dreams and her dishonesty towards her husband..On Tidy Endings deals with the themes of AIDS and homosexual relationships" (Dolls House By Insen). Both women are immersed in these controversies of their time period. A different theme found as it relates to Nora and Marion involves the focus of the stories.
