Introduction The dream team of OJ fame used a variety of techniques in respect to courtroom communications. In fact, their techniques bordered on the dramatic. Rhymes were used in the context of spoken language and graphics were utilized to make the point that OJ was or was not the killer based on DNA evidence. Props were used to communicate as well. The well-remembered glove that could not be put on the defendants hand is a communication technique that was used to send a message. The techniques worked. While such techniques might work in the hands of skilled lawyers, they are not right for every attorney nor are they appropriate for every case. The problem with utilizing a variety of techniques is that they sometimes work, but at other times backfire. One can use spoken language, body language, written language, graphics, or other variables to send their messages. In embarking on communications used by attorneys in the courtroom, a focus will be on graphics and nonverbal communications. Which method is most persuasive and which is most diverse? In deciding whether or not to use a particular technique, a lawyer will want to consider a variety of things inclusive of the circumstances of the case, the jury pool makeup and who the presiding judge is.
