to Live in Two Worlds”. This paper investigates the life struggle of a Hopi woman who as a child was one of the first Hopi children ever to be
educated in white schools and who as an adult had a difficult time balancing her Native commitment to the life she made in the white world.
Ironically, she would later become the first Hopi teacher to teach within the same schools she had attended as a child. Her entire life, however, would be an apparent struggle between native and white lifeways. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Qoyawayma was torn between two radically different worlds practically since birth. Born to Hopi parents at Old Oraibi Arizona, Polingaysi was taught Hopi ways. Soon, however, she would
have to leave those ways and enter the world of the white man. She would, in fact, become one of the first Hopi children ever to be educated in
white schools. Ironically, she would later become the first Hopi teacher to teach within those same schools. Her entire life, however, would be an apparent struggle between native
and white lifeways. "No Turning Back: A Hopi Indian Womans Struggle to Live in Two Worlds" reveals the intensity of that struggle.
Because Polingaysi is immersed in the world of the white man at a very early point in her life, she becomes dissatisfied wit the ways of her ancestors. She
ultimately learns, however, that while Anglo culture has many blessings it also has many curses. The people from whom Polingaysi originated represent one of the most fascinating cultures of
the earth yet she makes a circuitous trail coming to this realization. Her life in the boarding school among other Hopi children and later as an adult immersed in
white culture is exciting and satisfying yet at the same time it cannot fill the chasm which grows ever wider inside her soul. As we read her book we
