but of course, knowledge goes beyond technology. It might include knowledge about psychology or religion for example that has nothing to do with any sort of technological progress. Understanding is
a concept that falls within the parameter of technological change, but understanding is again something that falls within a broader category. Finally, well-being can be equated with technological advances
but well-being is something that is generally thought to be separate and apart from technology. An individual has a sense of well-being that is generally not equated with technology. At
the same time, an individual who is alive and well due to technology--they have a plastic knee joint or a pacemaker--can say that technology has added to their state of
wellness. Still, well being cannot be fully equated with advancement. In fact, some might say that the opposite is the case, which is why the idea of progress being aligned
with something positive is questionable. Many people try to get away from technology. They go in the woods as part of "vacation" either with the Boy Scouts or a tour
group or alone. They want to get away from civilization and technology and leave their cell phones and Gameboys at home for a weekend. Technology contributes to the state of
constant activity that so many are used to and many elderly people remember a time when relaxation was sitting under a tree with a good book. They had apples and
peaches for snacks. Not all food came prepackaged and in individualized portions. People walked everywhere. Obesity and stress was not commonplace. There are certainly obvious detriments related to technology. However,
