like what agriculture can do. Inasmuch as foraging consists of three primary techniques - hunting, gathering and fishing - one can readily surmise how each method was a learned
adaptation that was mutually accessible to both man and animal. When the student considers whether foragers are happy people, the first thing to ponder is what is happiness if not
a state of mind? In order to reach such a state of mind, one must engage in activity - either spiritual or social - that elicits this particular sentiment.
There exist a great many philosophies by which people live their lives that help maintain order and a sense of direction where there would otherwise be disorder and chaos.
The concept of a rational society - in which the entire community is greatly influenced by principles its members completely and accept without challenge - has indeed proven to
be one of the most powerful standards of all cultures and one that has long been an integral component of happiness. Characteristic of humanitys constant quest for the concept
of meaning, the journey of understanding has come to represent myriad things to myriad people, ultimately rendering any universal explanation virtually impossible. The problem with meaning as it relates
to happiness is attempting to successfully pinpoint a single yet comprehensive connotation to its concept; however, this cannot be achieved as long as any two individuals harbor decidedly different interpretations.
