in the markets where they operate. A major influence on any firm will be the economic climate. When there is an economy in decline or recession and the level of
disposable income decreases, there will be a decrease in the aggregate demand (Nellis and Parker, 2006). Likewise, when there is growth and an increase in the disposable income there will
be an increase in the aggregate demand (Nellis and Parker, 2006). However, not all goods will be impacted equally, some goods may be more sensitive and some firms better placed
to cope with the changes. A benefit of international expansion is the ability to diversify risk; if one country or area suffers some form of economic shock or enters recession
the firm is less sensitive to the negative impacts as often different counties will have differing economic conditions. To assess the way in which this occurs and look at the
way in which the fortunes of firms and the economic performance of counties may be linked, two companies performance may be assessed in two different developed counties economies between 2007
and 2011. The two companies are Nike and McDonalds and the countries the US and the UK. There are some commonalities between
