obstacles facing Nigeria in relationship to political and economic concerns. The following paper discusses some of the obstacles facing Nigeria in these regards. It should be noted that the text
will only be cited by page number as the author remains unknown to this particular writer. The text pages were faxed by the student requesting this paper and as such
that is the only bibliographic information available. Political and Economic Obstacles First off we note that Nigeria is a region that seems overcome with poverty. While poverty
exists in all nations of the world, Nigeria seems to have more than its fair share of poverty and impoverished people. The author of "Comparative Politics" states, "An estimated two-thirds
of Nigerians-nearly ninety million people-live below the poverty line, a problem that feeds into ethnic conflict to produce social unrest" (434). We can surely realize that any social unrest will
surely help create political unrest as well. And, with that many people living under the roof of poverty we can surely see that this is an economic obstacle as well.
The author continues and indicates that, "Although liberal democracies also have large numbers of their citizens living in poverty, they have large welfare programs that provide their recipients with
money and services that poor Nigerians would define as immense wealth...Nigerians who are defined as poor are earning less than $1 per day" (434). This truly puts things into perspective
