NIETZSCHES SUPERMAN , October, 2001 properly! Nietzsches concept of the Overman, which is how
the German would be translated literally, has come to be known as the Superman. Nietzsches Superman is an individual of unfettered spirit who is very much aware of his own
strength and worth. This is an extraordinary man who represents a higher level of mastery over nature than the average man (Frenzel, 1963; Hall, 2000). Knowles comments that
unlike the character Superman who is "Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!", Nietzsches Superman is "a human
who has battled modern values and overcome the flaws of humanity" (Nietzsche, 1993; Knowles, 2000). Nietzsche suggests that Superman has reached a higher state of development than others, a point
at which the individual is not affected by numerous factors and feelings that affects others, such as "pity, suffering, tolerance of the weak, the power of the soul over the
body, the belief in an afterlife, the corruption of modern values" (Nietzsche, 1993; Knowles, 2000). This Superman makes his own judgement regarding what is right and wrong, good and
evil and does not allow society, religious doctrine of other such organizations affect his own beliefs. Because he makes his own determinations about these things, this is an individual that
is in constant states of change and growth. The same is true for happiness, another state that is determined by the individual and not by outside forces. The act of
deciding upon his own values is one of the things that brings joy but as the external environment changes, so does the Superman. The changes the Superman is continually making
