last mans understanding of the soul and the will. In order to understand the last mans understandings of these notions, and why the last man is not able to create
beyond himself, one has to delve into the Zarathustra. Purportedly, and contrary to the original position, it is shown that the last man can go beyond himself. Nietzsche begins
with a tale not unlike some great writers who want to convey their message through a story. Zarathustra is the protagonist in this tale. In the work, Nietzsche (1976) writes:
" When Zarathustra was thirty years old, he left his home and the lake of his home, and went into the mountains" (p.121). It is here that the journey
begins, and the work would quickly move to a section on Metamorphosis. Here, the author writes: "Three metamorphoses of the spirit do I designate to you: how the spirit becometh
a camel, the camel a lion, and the lion at last a child" (1976, p.137). The beginning of this section is symbolic and one can also see more symbolism throughout
the story. The reference to the camel is interesting as there are many biblical references to camels and and one particular reference regarding a camel fitting through the eye
of the needle. Certainly, Nietzsche did not mean to suggest anything beyond the mundane or reference the bible, but one cannot help but to note the stark similarities and symbolism.
The author clearly intends for his works to be analyzed in an intricate manner. The concept of three is again biblical and also meaningful in the spiritual realm. Other references
in this chapter delve further and are also aligned with biblical ideas such as the concept of loving ones enemy. It is all in this particular part of the work.
