abide the normal conventions. They do not subscribe to typical ideas about morality that has been embraced by society. He or she questions authority, religion, convention and is rather flexible
in thought. Such free spirits are not attached to explanations or beliefs. Rather, they are careful in evaluating the world, not attaching themselves to any one ideal. Of course, this
does not mean that a free spirit is merely someone who defies convention or authority, living a hedonistic life. Rather, it is someone who does not accept societally sanctioned truths.
It is someone who does not take what is accepted by the general populous at face value. Can a free spirit move beyond good and evil? First, it is important
to define evil. Evil is not the same thing as "bad." Many think of good and evil as antonyms, but so is the pair of words good and bad. What
is the difference? Master morality is good and bad whereas slave morality focuses on good and evil. It should be noted that one may call the slave mentality a mob
or herd mentality. It is all the same. Nietzsche says: "...everything that elevates an individual above the herd and intimidates the neighbor is henceforth called evil" (201). Evil
does not come about by acts of omission but rather by deliberate intent. It is the difference between premeditated murder and involuntary manslaughter; the former is plotting and evil, and
the latter is just unfortunate, or bad. In general, Nietzsche saw value in exploring morality but he certainly had a unique point of view on the subject in general. In
honing in on the free spirit mentality, there is a seeming tension between the free spirit and the acceptance of ancient Greek values. Nietzsche also advocates the latter. How can
