their heart and soul to some degree. We often imagine this to be truth, perhaps, so that we can die content or at least with little guilt. If we harbor
incredible feelings of guilt about things we have done, we will not feel our life has been worth anything at all. In examining how Nietzsche would imagine a good life
we present the following examination which first details one on their deathbed imagining they have led a good life. The paper then discusses Nietzsches theories concerning master and slave morality.
with an understanding of these theories we can argue whether or not Nietzsche would have felt this particular individual had led a good life. A Good Life We
picture and individual on their death bed. They claim that they have led a good life. They have never murdered anyone. They have not stolen from anyone. They claim that
they are sensitive to the needs of others and that they have been relatively considerate of those around them. They also state that they have rarely lied or cheated. Now,
while this may sound like a life that is relatively boring an uneventful, it is a life that appears to be good, or good enough. This individual does not say
they have gone out of their way for another, nor have they claimed that they have stood up to injustice. We could say that their life has been good because
they did not interfere in other matters of reality, and that they maintained their own sense of goodness. Master Morality According to Nietzsche the master morality is one
that "is associated with nobility and classical values. The master simply defines himself and his values as good, and any other values as bad" (Anonymous Master and Slave Moralities, 2001;
