From its beautiful skyline where the World Trade Center once sat, to the large, greenery known as Central Park, the city has come a long way. It has a history
entrenched in ethnicity and immigration as people came to Ellis Island on the way into the United States. The city is composed of five boroughs, but when most think of
New York City, they are referring to Manhattan, the island that was purportedly sold for $24 worth of beads. In todays New York, $24 will not even buy a haircut.
That said, New York City features the most expensive shops on the upper east side to the sometimes dingy but chic Village boutiques. It is difficult to describe this city
that some have refereed to as one "that never sleeps." Indeed, city residents who travel elsewhere in the country are surprised to find that when going out to dinner at
10 oclock at night the restaurant is closing. New York City is a place that does seem to go all night from the docks and smelly fish markets that open
even before the crack of dawn, to the restaurants and bars that stay open late. At the same time, one can stand out in the city and night, look at
the stars and sense the quiet and peaceful nature it contains. New York City is also one replete with history and intrigue. Some of the founding fathers frequented bars in
the area for example. Also, a controversial grave site where many slaves were buried "stops just under City Hall " (Inskeep, 2003). While the city is located in a
