instrumental than anyone else in transforming what began as a fringe movement among messianic Jew into a vibrant new faith that, within a few generations, swept the Greco-Roman world (Sheler,
1999). Paul is an unusual historical figure in that all of his writings and the earliest accounts are readily available in modern English translations (Galli, 1995). The New Testament is
far and away the principle source for thousands of books on Pauls life (Galli, 1995). The apostle Paul is credited with authorship of roughly half the books in the
New Testament and is acknowledged as the "greatest shaper of the Christian church" after Jesus (Miller, 1997, p. 39). However, despite his importance in history, relative little is known about
Pauls life or the man himself (Miller, 1997). What we know about Pauls appearance comes form an early physical description of Paul in a book entitled The Acts of Paul,
which states that Paul was "A man of middling size and his hair was scanty, and his legs were a little crooked and his knees were far apart; he had
large eyes, and his eyebrows set, and his nose was somewhat long" (Miller, 1997, p. 39). While this description is intriguing, there is no way of determining its veracity. Miller
(1997) posits that it could be "little more than imaginative writing from a century after Paul died" (p. 39). However, this description does coincide with the manner in which Pauls
critics described him, as in 2 Corinthians 10:10, which reads: "His letters are weighty and forceful, but in person he is unimpressive" (all verses are from the New International Version
