problems that might be encountered along the way and recommendations as to how to solve those problems. PHASES OF NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT The most important factor in the computer
and technology industry that would have a direct impact on a companys position in the industry are such things as increased competitive activity from companies in the computer, gaming, and
wireless technology businesses, some of which have greater resources than that others. Of course retaining ones position in the industry depends mostly on the ability to market, develop and
produce new products on which their future operating results depend. One of the first phases that must take place in new product development is the appropriate research. In
the case of the computer technology market, it is important to realize that consumer markets differ from business markets in many ways. First of all, as the student should
show, knowing what the competition is actually doing as far as pricing and marketing techniques would be a consideration of a business market. But perhaps even more importantly is
to know whether this marketing plan is working: that is, are the consumers actually buying the product? By knowing what the consumers are choosing the student can show what
the consumer market will bear. In other words, the business acumen and actions taken by the competition are the business market; the action taken by the consumer, i.e., whether
the consumer is actually purchasing the product at that particular price or in that particular quality, is knowledge of the consumer market. This type of research will indicate what
