properly! Allison suggested that Britain was experiencing an identity crisis. Allison commented that following the 1997 victory of the Labour
Party in the General Election, British citizens started to perceive themselves as being lucky to live in such a country as Britain. Besides all the other assets and benefits, the
new "government had the highest popularity rating in history and a sense of buzz about the arts scene that made international perception of London, led by Newsweek, what it had
been for a time in the 1960s, as the most exciting city in the world" (1998, p. 326). The nation breathed a sigh of relief and joy to have a
new government after 18 years. The old government was perceived as having been "corrupt, stale, and out of touch" and people tended to blame them "for a wide variety of
problems and events for which it was not necessarily responsible" (Allison, 1998, p. 326). The Labour party who won were called the New Labour as a way of distinguishing themselves
as a party that was business-friendly. This was a party that embraced capitalism as opposed to the old Labor Party who was suspicious of capitalism (Allison, 1998). But, the honeymoon
seems to be over. The New Labour Party is criticized for dithering over joining the European Monetary Union and abolishing the pound sterling. The New Labour Party is compared to
their Conservative predecessors, who did the very same thing. Though, after six months, the New Labour Party did draft a plan that said Britain would not enter the EMU in
