such ideas can never really materialize, these thoughts do suggest a trend in that robotics is helping people in their daily human lives. Yes, robots themselves can help and do
human chores, but more importantly, robotics is now heavily used in medicine. Robotics can give life to a once lifeless arm for example. It can do extraordinary things. Yet, machines
will never possess human intelligence. Still, robotics has revolutionized the way in which people live today. The robotics industry is huge. It was recently reported that more than five
thousand robots which are worth in the neighborhood of three hundred million dollars were sold in the first quarter of 2005 in North America alone ("Robot orders," 2005). The robots
are used in a variety of circumstances from auto manufacturing plants to medical doctors to ordinary people. Indeed, robotics are focusing on the development of machines that are useful, but
many are interested in the creation of Humanoids (Hayden & Hadfield, 2001). Mataric says: "Theres nothing like trying to build a simulation of a baby, for example, to show you
just how much you dont know about how babies are built" (Hayden & Hadfield, 2001, p. 45). It is explained that when behavioral theories are tested with robots, it lends
a more significant advantage over computer simulations for example (Hayden & Hadfield, 2001). In this example, the author notes that one can evaluated infant behavior more easily through the use
of robotics. This is one example and it is just the tip of the iceberg. II. Historical Background Robotics, once again, is something that has fascinated
scientists and laymen alike. It has been fodder for science fiction writers and provides a fascination for millions of viewers. Robots however have only been around for less than fifty
