lead to the three tiered structures known as networks. In this paper we will consider the business benefits and management challenges and the two major types of networks, client server
networks and peer to peer networks. If we consider the computing networks in general we can then move onto the different types of network. Network Computing Networking brings many
advantages. The ability to communicate quickly without delays, information that is easily available to all those who need it without the problems of paper files and logistics. This also mean
information may be shared and communicated direct between different locations. When we look at computers used in this way we can appreciate
that it is not only the information that they contain that is important, but the way in which the information is shared and kept up to date. It was with
motivation that networks have been set up. The problem is that with any asset or system there will always be inherent threats. These may be physical threats due to errors,
sabotage or disasters such as fires or earthquake, or the may be virtual threats such as hackers and viruses. This means there need to be security feature to protect
from external hackers as well as the need to ensure that information is only available to those who need it, the use of passwords as well as the need to
monitor activity are challenges that are faced. Where there are networks used there also need to be plans for if a disaster occurs, such as a backup system in a
different building that can be used, or even the maintenance of backups so that restoration may occur as well as the business requiring secure and safe records.
