an ideology that theoretically blends liberal political views with an emphasis on economic growth. While this may be true and even admirable in theory, the reality is that neoliberalism most often tends to benefit the rich while hurting the poor. Therefore, this system is not effectual for the overall society and should be abandoned as a model to be emulated in this society. "Neoliberalism refers this refers to the set of national and international policies that call for business domination of all social affairs with minimal countervailing force" (McChesney, 2002). Within the context of neoliberalism, there is almost always the belief that new technologies can solve "social problems far better than any alternative course" (McChesney, 2002). Neoliberalism maintains that a representative democracy is part of the political structure but that it should be weak and basically remain out of the affairs of the people - especially in terms of the poor and the working class (McChesney, 2002). So then, as "lucrative as neoliberalism has been for the rich, it has been a disaster for the worlds poor and working classes" (McChesney, 2002). Essentially neoliberalism has covered the globe in recent years as globalisation has increased throughout the world. Neoliberalism is the trend in the world today as globalisation becomes more and more of a reality on a daily basis (Middle East Report: From the Editor, 2002).
